The Problem
Living Opera needed a mobile companion for aspiring opera singers to identify their vocal type (Fach), structure practice, and track technical progress — a domain with a genuinely technical vocabulary and a small, passionate, highly informed user base that would immediately spot a superficial understanding of the craft.

My Role
I anchored the UX strategy in research with working singers and professional vocal coaches — not proxies — to build three personas that reflected real training stages rather than generic user archetypes. From there I designed the Fach identification flow as a guided diagnostic rather than a quiz, and built practice-tracking dashboards that visualized progress the way a vocal coach actually measures it: over weeks, not sessions.

The Result
The shipped iOS app holds an approachable surface over rigorous underlying structure — the kind of balance a specialist audience notices immediately when it's missing, and trusts immediately when it's right.
